When the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines first proved their efficacy, preventing nearly 95% of coronavirus infections in those who got the shots in test trials, a vexing issue immediately arose.

Who should get priority in receiving these life-saving shots?

Generally speaking, the answer, while differing slightly from state to state, was that those most vulnerable to the virus, and those most vital to battling it, should be inoculated first.

The most vital were doctors, nurses and emergency medical personnel in hospitals receiving infected patients. The most vulnerable were the elderly in nursing homes with comorbidities and compromised immune systems who would be the least likely to survive an infection.

As the age for early inoculations dropped from 75 to 65, and then 50, and communities began to be vaccinated in greater numbers, a new issue arose: race. Blacks, peoples of color and the poor were not receiving inoculations at the same rate as the white and wealthy.

Efforts were made to rectify any such inequity.

However, almost no voice arose to say the world’s poor should be inoculated at the same time and at the same rate as Americans — with vaccines Americans had invented and produced.

That role has now been filled. In The Washington Post of April 6, Darren Walker, President of the Ford Foundation, writes: “An equitable vaccine rollout must prioritize the most vulnerable around the world.”

“Vast disparities are emerging in vaccine access — both within countries and between them,” says Walker, “especially for Afro-descendant and Indigenous communities.

“Within countries, the gaps are stark. In the United States… White people remained nearly two times more likely to be vaccinated than their neighbors of color at the end of March. In Brazil, Indigenous populations are 10 times more likely to die of covid-19 than the general population… And in India, many members of poor Muslim and Dalit communities are denied access to the limited vaccine supply that is available…

“Rich nations are hoarding the vaccines. Whether it’s the European Union blockading international vaccine exports entirely, or the United States stockpiling 30 million AstraZeneca doses, a wave of vaccine nationalism is depriving the world of much-needed supply.”

What must we Americans do to end the inequity?

Embrace a new policy of vaccine globalism and egalitarianism.

“The United States could… vaccinate the world — mobilizing the resources of the U.S. military and other agencies to manufacture, ship and distribute doses around the world. … To paraphrase the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., vaccine inequality anywhere is a threat to global health everywhere.”

Walker reflects what might be called Ford Foundation values. But are these American values?

Is it wrong for the U.S. government to put Americans first in the distribution of life-saving vaccines, ahead of people from any other country? Is it wrong for the U.S. to ensure that every American who wants a shot gets one, before taking on the task of vaccinating the rest of the world?

Is it wrong for America to put Americans first?

“Vaccine nationalism” seems but a synonym for vaccine patriotism.

If and when we have a surplus sufficiently large to send our vaccines abroad, would it be wrong to prioritize nations that are tried and true friends and allies like Canada and Britain?

When it comes to moral obligation, especially when it involves a matter so serious as human life, ought not one’s own family and friends, community and country come first?

Again, vaccine nationalism mandates putting fellow Americans first in receiving vaccines Americans discovered, tested and produced, even if that contradicts Ford Foundation values?

While all peoples may be equal in their God-given rights to liberty and life, the duty of the U.S. government is to protect and defend first and foremost the rights, and the health and safety of American citizens.

King may have written, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” But America is not responsible for “justice everywhere” — a utopian concept — but to establish justice to the degree it can in the USA.

Nor is inequality always a manifestation of injustice.

Easter Sunday is just behind us, the day Christians celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ who taught, “Greater love than this hath no man that he lay down his life for his friend.”

Such individuals are saints, and that is indeed sanctity.

But natural law teaches that, when it comes to love and loyalty, one puts one’s own family and country first.

“Vaccine inequality,” says Walker, is “a crisis to be solved… We must move away from vaccine nationalism to vaccine equity.

“An equitable vaccine rollout must prioritize and protect the most vulnerable in our societies — from the Dalit community in India, to Indigenous populations in Brazil, to essential farm workers and grocery store clerks throughout the United States.”

Sorry, but India’s Dalit community is Narendra Modi’s responsibility. The indigenous population of Brazil is Jair Bolsonaro’s responsibility. And the “farm workers and grocery store clerks in the USA” are ours.

  9. As shown in this article, Big Pharma has plans in place to use our children as guinea pigs for its COVID-19 vaccine experiment:

    https://viableopposition.blogspot.com/2021/03/covid-19-vaccines-how-big-pharma-is.html

    Given that no pharmaceutical researcher, scientist, physician or Big Pharma executive has any idea what the long-term ramifications of the unprecedented COVID-19 vaccines, particularly Moderna’s mRNA vaccine, will be on the health of the human race, it is interesting to see that Big Pharma is urging parents to volunteer their children for an experiment, the results of which have the potential to negatively impact their health for the remainder of their lives.

    That’s because blacks don’t trust the vaccine and you have a number of black leaders like Calypso Louis Farrakhan warning his flock against taking the vaccine. Blacks think everything is a wicked plot against their race and they are probably bigger anti-vaxxers than white people but the Jewish media doesn’t make any snide remarks about their distrust of the vaccine.

    Spoken like a slick pharmaceuticals salesman, Pat. Or like one of those suits from the federal government, announcing that he’s come to help us.

    Got any stats on all those lives being saved by the experimental drug-company vaccines approved in a head-spinning rush by the captured bureaucracies? Official statistics in my German state of Hesse show fewer deaths in corona panic year 2020 than the average of several previous years. But there are reports of people croiaking after getting the dodgy jabs.

    Africa seems to be doing just fine without Big Pharma. And we read that Russia and China are wide open. Maybe the deadly lab virus endlessly ravaging locked-down Europe and the USSA just can’t find those far-away places.

    Never heard of hydroxychloroquine or ivermechtin? Or, herd immunity?

  13. @Sally Snyder

    You are completely correct to raise the question of long term effects from these covid Vac’s. The m-RNA Vac is totally new — it has not received anything like the scrutiny a normal new Vac would under go (10 years I think is roughly the testing time for new Vac’s etc)
    Another issue tho — Pat says “When the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines first proved their efficacy, preventing nearly 95% of coronavirus infections in those who got the shots in test trials”
    Now that’s NOT my understanding. Mike Whitney & others have been pretty clear that these m-RNA Vac’s do NOT prevent transmission of the virus. What they do do is lower or prevent the virus from killing or seriously hospitalising victims. Big difference — you can still catch & transmit the virus….
    But maybe I misunderstand.

  14. “preventing nearly 95% of coronavirus infections”

    uh…no.

    at best, 95% prevention of severe symptoms. you can still be infected after being vaxed

    When Zionists dominate media, what “another asserted” is a lie, hence the “proof” is a lie.

    I’m really surprised to see Pat Buchanan — who has full knowledge of the massive role the Jewish lobby and Zionist media played in lying America into ongoing and endless Mideast wars for Israel and profit, and has written about the Jewish problem extensively — aping the Zionist establishment narrative on vaccines.

    I’ve noticed people of his era have zero incredulity when it comes to getting vaccinated, as if they somehow patriotically associate it with America’s world war hay days and post WW2 prosperity. But again, Pat Buchanan has written about how WW2 was the “Unnecessary War” and was sold by a lying cabal of British and ((International)) cut-throats and psychopaths.
    https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2258833.Churchill_Hitler_and_The_Unnecessary_War_

    So the same cabal isn’t selling the “vaccine” and making people sign waivers promising not to sue before getting injected? Is that the “patriotic” thing to do — sign away your legal rights for recourse to a quasi-fascist amalgamation of government and Big Business?

    If even Pat Buchanan has been taken in — God help us.

    It is done in violation of the Nuremberg Code.

    They hung physicians (7 of them) for doing medical experimentation on human guinea pigs.

    There is work underway for a new tribunal. This experimentation is an issue. It must stop.

    Read the definition of a vaccine. IMMUNITY! This thing does not provide IMMUNITY. Read the manufacturers package inserts. It doesn’t provide IMMUNITY.

    There is no vaccine.

    Can’t make it any clearer. Stop spreading the false narrative.

  20. As long as no Americans ever leave the US again, or import possibly surface-contaminated goods from infected countries, or as the WHO/China claims, import frozen fish from the fjords of Norway, the approach of keeping vaccines nationally is acceptable.

    Even the poorest in other countries (except maybe their elderly, median age of death is 82) will develop natural immunity which is probably preferable to vaccine immunity in the young and healthy.

    Just compare Michigan (death rate 1750 per million with the American approach) to South Africa (death rate 889 per million, with no approach!) May change of course, but incompetence and failure to incorporate other countries’ successful approaches, medicines and treatment has not served the West well. Western countries have trashed other approaches (IMMEDIATE border shutdowns– Asia–, nutritional and vitamin supplements– Elderly are deficient in one or more nutrients critical for fighting infections generally; adding the disinfectant povidone iodide to Neti pots– popular in Subcontinent; hydroxychloroquine, ivermectine, quercetin, fluvoxamine, TCM, et all– none curative (only glucocorticoids and aspirin/ heparins have much effect once infected; vaccines don’t help after infected either) but possibly mild efficacy is life saving.) If Geert vanden Bossche is correct (we should know within a year), putting all your eggs in the vaccine basket may lead to a much more dangerous pandemic.)

  22. Both the USA and the EU have produced afaik around 150 million doses of vaccines. The difference: the USA kept all of that for itself, while the EU has exported around 75 million doses. That’s why patriotic USA is ahead in the race to vaccination of its population.

    • Replies: @Skeptikal
  23. But it should be added that because of the inevitability of mutations national self-interest does dictate as fast a global eradication of the virus as possible. That may mean export of vaccines before national saturation is reached.

  24. When the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines first proved their efficacy, preventing nearly 95% of coronavirus infections in those who got the shots in test trials….

    They never really proved that. The researchers have no idea how many test subjects were exposed to the virus, only that of those who got the vaxx, 95% failed to contract a symptomatically severe of infection within a limited time period. The actual efficacy might be significantly lower over an extended timeframe.

    They also learned little of the actual safety of the vaxxes in the limited time frame. They had a few severe reactions and at least one death. In the four months they’ve been vaxxing millions, the following has played out:

    Events ->Reported
    Deaths -> 2,286
    Life Threatening -> 1,535
    Permanent Disability -> 984
    Congenital Anomaly / Birth Defect -> 58
    Hospitalized -> 5,116
    Emergency Room -> 9,088
    Office Visit -> 8,874

    plus other “events.” In total, more than 64k reported events in just four months, significantly more than for all other vaccines as annually reported in prior years. The four-month deaths reported for COVID vaxxes are almost 10x the total annual deaths reported in all prior years in which VAERS data were collected for all vaccines combined.

    With numbers like that, I’d say our politicians should make sure nobody below the age of 70 should be coerced into being vaxxed, and I’ll gladly donate my at-risk priority to some willing soul in the third world.

  25. Pat has been vaxxed.

    I keep reading about how this virus is yet again getting out of control. An Yahoo article said that it has gotten so bad in Gretchen Whitmer’s Michigan that they’ve run out of hospital beds in the cities (where have I heard that one before?).

    How can this be so when, in his first sentence, Pat repeated Big Pharma’s whopper that these vaccine’s have a 95% efficacy in stopping the virus? And why is the infection rate still rising, when hundreds of thousands more are being vaccinated every day?

    Naturally they will blame it all on us Vaccine Resisters, when the opposite is true. See Mike Whitney’s article in TUR a month ago: “Operation Vaxx – All Deplorables: Codename; Satan’s Poker.” The recently vaccinated, since they get a dose of the virus in their shot, could be the Super Spreaders. The solution is for all recently vaccinated people to be quarantined for at least two weeks – to Stop the Spread!

    Give us the current GOP fundraising star nutcase Marjorie Taylor Green version. ‘Greater love hath no man who makes a patsy and demonizes all who disagree’ (e.g. Liz Cheney). Do you agree with her? Is she the future of the GOP? Give us a hint.

    That’s certainly the case with Trump’s offspring (they can’t seem to make an independent living; ventriloquist dummies that mouth Donald’s latest gospel.

    We don’t know that long-term effects of the shots (they are not “vaccines”).

    Many doctors have hypothesized that getting an mRNA shot may lead to AED.

    This would weaken or destroy a person’s natural immune system and its ability to fight off new infections.

    In this case, getting an mRNA shot is akin to getting a shot of opium that creates a dependency.

    This mania to inject the whole population may be compared to creating mass addictions and dependencies on further shots. If the AED scenario is true, one can hypothesize that each further shot is a further blow to the natural immune system.

    And a robust human immune system is completely able to recognize something 97% of which it has “seen before” and take the needed steps based on earlier defensive actions.

    The correct response is to nurture strong immune systems, not run around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to cut of “new variants” at the pass with new synthetic “hacks” (Moderna CEO’s word) that interfere with the normal functioning of a healthy immune system’s DNA, messenger RNA, and own weaponry.
