I didn't take any good photos recently, so here's a video with creepy music instead - the better to with this scifi horror short story that I read recently, "Lena" on ems by qntm. Much darker vision than Hanson's. Though I suppose if there are trillions of ems, only a small percentage of them will... Read More
Leaked documents have unequivocally proven that the United Kingdom has been running a large-scale and well-funded program to plaster the Western media with anti-Russian propaganda and Twitter wants you to know that these materials were obtained through hacking. Meanwhile, just a few weeks ago, the connections between American Big Tech and these sundry programs were... Read More
Several months ago, I speculated why Twitter would suspend the Valdai Club (a milquetoast discussion group that largely centers around economics issues and has a large component of systemic liberals within in). Now we have an answer. RT: Twitter is an American company and it's long been clear that it is used along with Facebook... Read More
Armenian General Staff is demanding a Pashinyan resignation. Summary from /r/armenia: In a statement issued on the afternoon of February 25, the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces demanded the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan and his Cabinet., expressing strong disapproval of Pashinyan's sacking of Tigran Khachatryan, the First Deputy Chief of the General Staff.... I have written that Moscow - not to mention the rest of Russia - remains an overwhelmingly (that is, 85%-90% Slavic) megapolis. The Myth of Moskvabad From Russia to Russabia? Not Anytime Soon I don't see the need to reiterate something that only remains an obsession for a few liberal racists masquerading as Russian nationalists,... Read More
Currently jostling in the top rankings: Jeff Bezos (Amazon) and Elon Musk (Tesla), both at around $200B. Amazon is a mature company that dominates the US e-commerce market and has substantial fingerprints abroad (about a third of revenue). Also not to be underrated is AWS, which accounts for a third of the global cloud computing... Read More
Michel Houellebecq - SUBMISSION (2015) Rating: 4/5 You can access all of my latest book, film, and video game reviews at this link, as well as an ordered, categorized list of all my book reviews and ratings here: Finally read Houellebecq's Submission a few weeks ago, filling in a major and hitherto embarrassing lacuna. There has been a large leak of documents from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) showing that the UK is sponsoring and providing editorial guidance to anti-Kremlin journalists, media organizations, and YouTubers as part of a £100 million plan to "tackle Kremlin disinformation" during 2018-22. Their aim, forthrightly stated, is to "[weaken] the Russian... Read More
This week's Open Thread.
If you weren't under a rock the past week, you will have heard that the New York Times finally went through with its threats to publish Scott Alexander's real name in its write up about the Bay Area rationality community. It was a disappointing effort, if not unpredictable. The author, Cade Metz, has no interest... Read More
Sorry for the lack of new posts recently, have been occupied with a few other matters. Will resume very soon.
This week's open thread.
Western media: Angry Russians fed up with Putler's corruption pour into the streets. But now the first post-"palace" video opinion polls are coming in on Putin's approval rating and related questions: Levada: 65%→64% VCIOM: 60%→61% FOM: 61%→60% Levada is a private, opposition-leaning pollster. VCIOM and FOM are state-owned pollsters. Other polls: FOM: Did the actions... Read More
Just one and a half years ago, I was heralding the end of the blogosphere and its replacement by the vlogosphere. But last year, along came Substack - a modest newsletter service that doubles as a blogging platform with inbuilt RSS, analytics, and monetization infrastructure. Seemingly exploding out of the blue, before long a rafter... Read More
This episode reaches its unsurprising denouement: Small first protest Even smaller second protest Navalny gets jailed So, exactly as I predicted it would go. It didn't require much in the way of unique insight, but Western hacks in Russia have an obligation to spin up fantasies demanded by their editors. This creates a lot of... Read More
Second Free Navalny! protest will take place in 10 hours. The location, Lubyanka Square, is an escalation, being adjacent to both the Lubyanka Building that hosts the FSB HQ: ... and the even more critical "regime object" that is the Presidential Administration. As of the present time, a total of 1,800 people say they are... Read More

As a rule: If it's in the news, it's already too late to make money from it.
This is the creative group responsible for peddling RASHN DEZINFORMATSIYA like the "Draft our Daughters" and Taylor "The Ten-Ton Terror of Tel Aviv" Swift meme campaign. These people were all kicked off Twitter and Blompf did nothing about it, one of many things that contributed to him losing in 2020. Who knows, with margins being... Read More
That columnist is sure covering all his bases: "Kharkiv Tractor Plant in Russia", something sure to trigger both Russian nationalists and Ukrainian svidomy and I am sure without even being aware of it. Based. Anyhow, these are pretty large-scale - one Twitter accounts talks of 250,000 participating in Delhi. I am hardly an expert... Read More
There is a lot of rhetoric floating about in the usual Reddit/Blue Check crowd that these were the largest demonstrations in Russia of the Putin. This is not really even true - the Bolotnaya/Prospekt Sakharova "meetings" against electoral fraud in Moscow drew more people, though one may argue this is an unfair comparison since they... RT journalist Bryan MacDonald collating protest turnout data - mostly from Kommersant, a paper that is marginally opposition-leaning, but by not means pro-regime. Data from Far East and now from the Volga suggests 0.2% of population is protesting in the more "agitated" cities, this tallies with my prediction this will be bigger than ~7,500 at... Read More

Plus ça change... Just like three years ago on March 26, 2017, the protest "Freedom to Navalny!" tomorrow is to start on Pushkin Square (see above) and march down the central Tverskaya Boulevard down to Manezh Square, which is right next to the Kremlin. I attended that prior protest (as an informal observer, not a... Read More
Good taste, not overly tacky (e.g. too much gold like with Trump). I'd probably build something like that as a strongman. There's nothing cardinally new about Navalny's video. The construction of a palace at Gelendzhik in Krasnodar Krai linked to friends of Putin was "leaked" to the world more than a decade by Sergey Kolesnikov,... Read More
Pretty cool that the US has constructed a Blue Zone in its own capital. Although the 25,000 National Guardsmen are apparently unarmed, which suggests that the Dems don't actually take MAGA terrorists seriously. But it's good theater. Or, I suppose it could be that THE PLAN is coming to fruition. Any hour now.
This week's Open Thread.
Navalny didn't pass through Berlin Airport on his way to Moscow. Sealed train in 1917, sealed airplane in 2021. Plus ça change.
Natasha Bertrand, writing for Politico, says that conspiracy theories promoted by a "former economic policy adviser" to Putin "raise the specter of Russian attempts to sow chaos and doubt in the legitimacy of US elections." Said conspiracy theories refer to a Jan 8, 2021 blog post entitled "Burning of the Reichstag 2021" on his Russian... Read More
One observation I've seen people make is that Elon Musk's industrial empire seems ultra-optimized for the distinctly non-commercial ambition of establishing a Mars colony: SpaceX for providing the reusable rockets to throw large payloads into space at much lower cost. Tesla to provide the batteries for Mars vehicles. Boring Company to dig out the tunnels... Read More
LEVIATHAN (2014) Rating: 2/5   Finally watched this major Cannes hit, and understood why it was so popular with the "professional" critics, if not quite as much with normies (Metacritic: 92% vs. 73%; Rotten Tomatoes: 98% vs. 80%). No redeeming characters. Main "hero" is a boorish, highly unlikable, impulsive, and violent alcoholic. His wife is... Read More
Jan 9, 2020 marks the 12th year since I began blogging about Russia in 2008, before expanding into broader geopolitical topics, HBD, and futurism within that same year. Credit where credit is due - Navalny has come out against Trump's deplatforming. (He posted the same thing in Russian). The brighter Blue Checks RT'ed this, saying, OK, good points, though I respectfully disagree. Some of the duller Blue Checks and Russiagaters in the replies attacked Navalny, calling him a Russian nationalist, expressing "disappointment" in... Read More
He monitored the situation. Pretty successful poasting career though.
There are MAGA people claiming this is a deep fake in the replies, LOL. As concerns the ability to generate an undying cult of personality, even past the point of becoming a (political) corpse, I suppose Donald Trump truly is the "God-Emperor of Mankind." Having a non-suspended Twitter account is helpful with that, I imagine.
Approaching $200 billion ($195B according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, vs. Bezos' $185B), he has blown his way past Bezos after Tesla shares surged north of $800 today. But let's move on to a far more important discussion: Raz of Chaz or MAGA Viking, who did the techno-barbarian warlord aesthetic better during their occupations of Capitol Hill and the Capitol, respectively? If you gaze long upon the Ukraine... The Ukraine gazes back into you.
I haven't been following them closely (or at all, really). But my throwaway guess is that Republicans lose both. Why would lower income Trump supporters vote for the party that failed to find Trump 11,780 votes and denied them their well-deserved $2,000 worth of gibs? I certainly wouldn't in their place. Polling average ends in... Read More
From Twitter demographer Cicerone (now @BirthGauge): For some countries, this is the last update (November) for which realized births still reflect fertility decisions taken before the onset of Corona - which, judging from anecdotal reports, will crater them further, but we'll see*. Why is Israel vaccinating its population so fast relative to everyone else? I am seeing some smol brain takes on this. Sure, Israel might be a "small" country, but so is Belgium. The GOD DANG CHEETO ORANGE MUSSOLINI will soon be out of the White House. As such, it's now the Chinese taking over from the Russians paying Afghans to kill American soldiers in Afghanistan. It's not something freedom loving Afghans would even think of doing if they weren't getting rubles, yuan, or preferably both for it.
I wish my readers the best of spirits and great success in 2021!
In this "summary" post on Corona 2020, I will cover some of the following. This is how the final UK - EU deal was characterized by Alexander Mercouris in a live stream with Alex Christoforou at The Duran. Map of POC homelands within Europe. AI safety research outfit MIRI say they're thinking of leaving Berkeley on account of: Translated from rationalese to /pol/speak, they're presumably saying they don't want to stay in the new "designated shitting streets" capital of the world and pay high taxes for the privilege. Anatoly Karlin
About Anatoly Karlin

I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.

One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.

Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
